Thomas Boni Yayi

Former President @ Republic of Benin

Thomas Boni Yayi is a Beninese banker and politician who served as President of Benin from 2006 to 2016. He also served as the Chairperson of the African Union from 2012 to 2013. A champion of pan-African issues, Mr. Boni Yayi has been a significant promoter of developing trade and political relations between Europe and African nations.

He holds a master’s degree in economics fro the Cheikh Anta Dio University in Dakar, Senegal and a doctorate in economics and politics at the University of Orléans in France and at Paris Dauphine University.

From 1975 until 1979 he worked at the Benin Commercial Bank before moving to the Central Bank of West African States until 1989. He has served as an economic adviser to Benin President Nicéphore Soglo and was president of the West African Development Bank.
