Francois Kanimba

Minister of Trade and Industry @ Republic of Rwanda

Honourable Minister François Kanimba has been one of the main architects of economic reforms implemented by Rwanda in the last 15 years. He was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry of Rwanda in 2011 following a long career as an economist and banker. He served as Governor of the Central Bank of Rwanda (2002-2011), as First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Rwanda (2000-2002) and as World Bank Principal Economist (1995-2000) before that where he coordinated the World Bank operations in Rwanda in the areas of Macroeconomic Management and Private Sector Development.

Minitster Kanimba graduated as an engineer in statistics and economics from the European Centre for Training Economists and Statisticians for Developing Countries (Paris 1983) and developed a wide range of expertise in macroeconomic management during the 11 years of his professional career (1984-1995) at the Ministry of Economic Planning of Rwanda. He was the Chairman of the Governance Task Force who negotiated the first Structural Adjustment Program in Rwanda supported by the World Bank, the MF and other Development Partners.
